The I Love New York Curling Open is an open tournament sanctioned by the World Curling Tour.
24 team limit. Five game guarantee with 24 teams.
All games are 10 ends.
USCA rules apply.
Round robin play in 4 pools of six teams. The top two teams from each pool qualify. The 8 qualifiers play single elimination.
A substitute player or 5th member is acceptable. No player participating in the tournament may act as a substitute for another team. All players on a team must be registered.
Coin toss will be used to determine choice of hammer or rock color in round
robin play.
Shootout:
Each team will participate in a shootout following their 2nd win with the results used as a means of determining playoff rankings, if required, following the round robin matches.
Teams will be permitted one practice rock per position immediately followed by official shootout. Note that all 4 members must throw towards the home end. Order of throwing is up to the team. Sweepers are permitted. Distance of each rock from the pinhole will be measured and will be totaled to create a team total. Any rock coming to rest outside of the rings will be awarded a distance of 6 feet.
The top two teams in each division will be determined as follows:
1. Conclusive 1st Place
Based on Round Robin competition, the team with the best record in each division will be considered to be the Division Winner and the next best record will be considered the Division Runner-up.
2. Two-way tie for 1st
If there is a two-way tie for the best record in a Division, both teams will advance to the Playoff Round with the team who won the round robin game between the two teams being declared the Division Winner and the other team declared the Division Runner-up.
3. Three-way tie for 1st
If there is a three-way tie for the best record in the Division, two scenarios are possible:
First, if one of the tied teams defeated both other teams in the round robin, that team will be declared the Division Winner and the remaining two teams will play a tiebreaker game for the Division Runner-up position.
Secondly, if all three teams are 1-1 in games between them, the team with the highest shootout points or, if still tied, the highest WCPA Ranking will advance to the playoff round and the other two teams will play a tiebreaker for the 2nd playoff position from that division, with the loser being eliminated from further play.
Once both playoff teams are determined within that division, the winner of the round-robin game between the two will be declared the Division Winner and the other declared the Division Runner-up.
4. Four-way tie for 1st
If there is a four-way tie for first place, there will be two tiebreaker games to decide the two Division Winners. Once the two playoff teams are determined, the team winning their round robin game will be declared the Division Winner and the other team, the Division Runner-up. To determine who plays whom in these tie breakers, team shootout results will be used with 1 vs. 4, 2 vs. 3.
5. Two-way tie for 2nd
If there is a two-way tie for second place in the Division, the two teams will play a tiebreaker with the winner being declared the Division Runner-up.
6. Three-way tie for 2nd
If there is a three-way tie for second place in the Division, two tiebreaker games will be held as follows:
The teams tied will be rated 1, 2, and 3 based on (i) the team's round robin record against each other, (ii) the team shootout results, (iii) WCPA Rankings if possible or (iv) draw from a hat. Teams 2 and 3 will play each other in tiebreaker #1. The winner of this tiebreaker will play team ranked #1 in tiebreaker # 2. The winner of tiebreaker # 2 will be declared the Division Runner-up.
7. Four-way tie for 2nd
If there is a four-way tie for second place in the Division, there will be two tiebreaker games. The winners of these games will then play another tiebreaker to determine the Division Runner-up. To determine who plays whom in these two tiebreaker games, team shootout results will be used with 1 vs. 4, 2 vs. 3.
All Tie Breaker Games will be 8 Ends
Playoff Round
The playoff round to determine the Event Winner will be an Eight-Team single elimination with quarterfinals, semifinals and finals. The eight teams participating will be determined as follows:
1. The four Division Winners will be ranked in positions 1 thru 4 based on:
i. Their win/loss record in round robins
ii. Team shootout results
iii. WCPA Ranking
iv. If teams are tied and have no WCPA ranking, playoff position will be determined randomly (i.e., flip of a coin, drawn from a hat, etc.)
2.The four Division Runners-up will be ranked in positions 5 thru 8 based on:
i. Their win/loss record in round robins
ii. Team Shootout results
iii. WCPA Ranking
iv. If teams are tied and have no WCPA ranking, playoff position will be determined randomly (i.e., flip of a coin, drawn from a hat, etc.)
3. Each Championship Round game shall be 10 Ends and the higher ranked team (1-8) has choice of last rock or rock color.
